How Big Is A Dog’s Heart?

Last night I had a really awful stream of insmonia and left with nothing to do…except watch Netflix of course. So there’s this show called ‘Dog with a Job’ and because of my obvious undying burning love for Dogs I just had to watch it until 4 in the morning. Guys, I was crying while watching it. Like, actual happy cry crusty eyed 4 a.m tears. In the episode that completely captured my heart was one about a Chocolate Lab named Maggie, and 7 year old named Daniel who suffered with Autism. Daniel was alot for his parents to handle and most of the time wandered off and ran down the street at random times. Maggie came from across the country with her trainer, and was carefully raised to be a special needs dog. At first, Daniel was afraid of Maggie and avoided her. They shared a connected leash when going for walks with Daniel’s parents, and it proved to help him out a great amount because whenever he tried running off, Maggie, being much heavier than Daniel, stopped him right in his tracks. Maggie followed Daniel everywhere and what got to me most is how much this Dog loved this little disabled boy with all she had. She always had an eye out for him. Within a week, Daniel grew as attached to Maggie as she was to him. His whole demeanor was calmer and more confident.

Maybe it’s due to the fact that it was FOUR IN THE MORNING, HELLO, who cries alone to an Animal Planet movie in the middle of the night? (Me…) But this got me thinking a really beautiful thought. Dogs, and animals in general do not know any other emotion besides caring, pure, love. They don’t know what hate is, they aren’t envious, malicious, or narcisistic. They would never dream of hurting anyone, and are loyal regardless of how many times you mistreat them. They simply just want to play and be loved in return. And how incredibly cool is that? It’s so weird that people can be the trickiest, most dissapointing or decietful creatures on the earth, and yet animals don’t operate that way. I just kind of wanted to write that one all out because it seemed worth writing about.

Ps. Shout out to my “Maggie” 12 year old Golden Samson.

Pps. Don’t watch Marley & Me. Seriously, forget the Notebook. Talk about heartwrenching. (It’s my favorite movie)

Launched in 2014 as a community for creative thinkers, bloggers, and those with eyes and an open heart, this CaraFranMin is a quickly growing collective of go-getters from around Pittsburgh. My hopes for this account is to promote a more honest, and raw type of writing among young people. To speak up about the things that aren't always easy to talk about, and to get real with others. I've always loved telling, sharing, and writing stories. The way I see it--This is what life is all about- human connection and how our passion molds us into the people we become. I am fascinated by what makes people tick, those who go the distance and follow their true calling. Any chance to get to know others better, make them feel inspired or turn their day around, I'm in. Some noteworthy things about me include: There is a constant stream of song lyrics going through my mind at all times. I'm an avid people watcher. An overly friendly introvert. Die hard Coffee lover and expert "I KNOW THIS SONG" -er. And I am obsessed with my Golden Retriever, Theodore. Catch me at Carnegie Coffee Company on the weekends, or somewhere floating on my paddleboard around the Burgh.
